Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd je kompilačný album, ktorý vydala britská rocková skupina Pink Floyd. V Spojenom kráľovstve bol spoločnosťou EMI Records vydaný 5. novembra 2001 a nasledujúci deň bol vydaný spoločnosťou Capitol Records v Spojených štátoch. Album začínal 24. novembra 2001 na 2. priečke rebríčku Billboard 200 s predajom 214 650 kópií.^[1] V rebríčku sa udržal 26 týždňov.^[2] Album bol ocenený zlatom, platinou and 2 x platinou 6. decembra 2001 v USA asociáciou RIAA. Neskôr dostal aj 3 x platinu 8. januára 2002 a 4 x platinu 10. septembra 2007.

Popis albumu a jeho história

Album Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd predstavuje prierez celou tvorbou skupiny Pink Floyd, začína rokom 1967 a končí 1994, kedy kapela vydala štúdiový album The Division Bell. Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd pozostáva z dvoch CD, skladby ale nie sú chronologicky zoradené. Na výbere skladieb sa podieľali všetci traja členovia skupiny (David Gilmour, Rick Wright a Nick Mason) a aj bývalý basgitarista skupiny Roger Waters. Všetky skladby plynulo prechádzajú do následujúcich skladieb bez medzier medzi jednotlivými piesňami. Všetkých 26 skladieb bolo nanovo remasterovaných.

Na albume Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd nie sú zahrnuté žiadne skladby z albumov Soundtrack from the Film More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother a Obscured by Clouds, aj keď to bolo plánované. Je to taktiež prvý album vydaný na CD, na ktorom sa nachádza singel When the Tigers Broke Free.

Niektoré skladby museli byť aj skrátené (hlavne „Echoes“ a „Marooned“).

Obal albumu

Obal vytvoril výtvarník Storm Thorgerson z bývalej výtvarníckej skupiny Hipgnosis, ktorá vytvárala obaly albumov pre Pink Floyd v rokoch 1968 až 1977. Storm pracoval so skupinou Dream Theater na ich albume z roku 1997 Falling into Infinity, a vtedy ukázal skupine dve skice pre obal albumu. Jedna skica bola následne vybraná pre album Falling into Infinity a druhú ponúkol skupine Pink Floyd pre album Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd.
