Cosmic Gate je nemecká trance dvojica, ktorú tvoria Claus Terhoeven (narodený 1972, umeleckým menom Nic Chagall) a Stefan Bossems (1967, vystupujúci ako DJ Bossi). Hrajú trance, hard trance, tech trance.

Hudobná skupina Cosmic Gate vznikla oficiálne v roku 1999, aj keď Nic a Bossi boli v kontakte už od roku 1997, keď sa ako producenti podieľali na viacerých hudobných projektoch z vydavateľstva X-IT Records. Ich prvý singel pod hlavičkou Cosmic Gate s názvom "The Drums" vznikol koncom roka 1998 a bol vydaný, tak ako väčšina singlov z prvého albumu, vďaka vydavateľstvu EMI Records Ltd./EMI Electrola v roku 1999. Výsledky v hudobných rebríčkoch boli povzbudivé, no duo mierilo podstatne vyššie a preto strávili dlhé týždne v štúdiu vylepšovaním svojej produkcie. Nasledovali single "Mental Atmosphere", "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"^[1] (ktorý síce pôvodne vytvoril Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, no v tomto prípade to bola skôr prerábka verzie od nemeckej producentky Marusha z roku 1994), "Exploration of Space" (z dlhodobého pohľadu najznámejší singel od toho dua, aj keď v čase vzniku jeho pôvodnej verzie to tak nevyzeralo) alebo "Melt To The Ocean". Singel "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" obsahoval aj bonusovú pesničku "Fire Wire", ktorá bola prepracovaná a s pestrým balíkom remixov vydaná ako samostatný singel v roku 2001.^[2] Ten priniesol skupine Cosmic Gate prvý globálny úspech aj mimo krajín ako Nemecko, Rakúsko, prípadne krajín Beneluxu, kde sa hudobný štýl trance tradične tešil veľkej podpore u poslucháčov. Túto prvú etapu v histórii skupiny zosumarizoval album Rhythm & Drums z roku 2001.

Cosmic Gate vytvorili veľa remixov pre umelcov ako je DJ Tiësto (Urban Train), Ferry Corsten (Punk), Blank & Jones (DFF), Svenson & Gielen (Answer the Question) a Vanessa-Mae (White Bird).

Počas posledných rokov sa zvuk Cosmic Gate zmenil z tvrdšieho trance na jemnejší, ale vždy energický hudobný štýl.^[3]
